Our History
Sustainable Wellness Solutions, formerly known as Consumers Self Help Center, was established in 1986 by a dedicated group of individuals seeking to create a Consumer Run Program focused on mental health advocacy. With an initial grant of $20,000 from the County Board of Supervisors, we began renting meeting spaces in churches and non-profits to foster peer support and collaboration for improved services.

By 1989, we transitioned into a private non-profit organization, further expanding by 1995 to include the South Center, North Center, and The Office for Patients’ Rights in Sacramento County. The year 2007 marked a significant achievement as we were awarded the contract for the Wellness & Recovery Center under the Mental Health Services Act.

In 2022, after a collaborative year-long process of community and staff feedback, we rebranded as Sustainable Wellness Solutions to better embody our mission of helping individuals identify and pursue sustainable wellness strategies.

Today, we offer a wide range of peer-run wellness and recovery services across Sacramento County, operate re-housing and Peer Workforce programs, advocate for Patients' Rights in Sacramento and Contra Costa Counties, and manage a warmline support for local residents. Our organization remains steadfast in its commitment to being peer-driven and peer-run, empowering individuals facing behavioral health challenges through shared experiences and skills that foster meaningful, lasting change.
